Description: This wave is formed by an offshore reef that focuses the swell energy into A-frame peaks that break on the perfectly formed sandbars that lay a 100mts inside of the reef. Best at mid to high tide.
Directions: FROM LIBERIA (LIR) AIRPORT:
Playa Grande is a 1-hour drive from Liberia Airport (LIR). When leaving the airport make the first left (if you go right you’ll be in Liberia within 10 minutes at the main intersection for the Pan-American Highway) follow this road past Filidelfia to Belen, make a right before you reach the gas station. This road will take you to 4km to an intersection, make a left.
You will need to follow this road for a while, passing the town of Hucas. Keep going. Until you reach the town of Matapalo. Mak a left as you pass the soccer field.
Follow the road until you reach the town of Playa Grande. As you pass “Kike’s”, you will see a huge “Century 21″ sign. At the sign, go left. Follow this road until you reach the only stop sign in the area, keep going straight ahead until you reach the parking lot. Refundores is just south of the parking lot.
